Two artists in residency, Michelle Defoe and Moira Villiard, worked with Cloquet students to create two murals — one at Cloquet High School and one at Cloquet Middle School — over the past few months. Lois Grace Lennartson of Midway Township went to her heavenly home Saturday, June 1, 2024. Lois was born June 3, 1927. She died just two days before her 97th birthday. Lois was the daughter of George and Hedwig Thorburg. She was one of four daughters, with Lindus being her identical twin. Lois married Elmer Lennartson on July 30, 1949. She and her husband had three sons, Paul, David and Mark. Lois was a 1945 graduate of Proctor High School. Lois and her identical twin Lindus were cheerleaders... Full story
Darlene R. MacMillan, 77, of Carlton passed away May 26, 2024, at St. Luke's Hospital in Duluth. She was born June 10, 1946, the daughter of Charlie and Myrtle (Moe) Olesiak, and grew up on the family farm in Sawyer, Minnesota. Darlene graduated from Carlton High School, and married Danny MacMillan in 1965. They raised three children on the farm in Atkinson, and she also worked as a nurse's aide in Cloquet until retiring. Chad Richard Timonen, 43, of Apple Valley, Minnesota, passed away at Fairview Ridges Hospital on March 28, 2024, with his family by his side. Chad was born June 14, 1980, at Methodist Hospital in St. Louis Park, Minnesota, and was raised in Beaver Township. He graduated from Moose Lake High School in 1998. Benjamin R. McLain, 38, of Superior, Wisconsin, died unexpectedly on May 29, 2024. Ben was born June 19, 1985, in Cloquet to Dee (Blunt) and Brian McLain. He was employed at various places over the years and always liked to keep busy. Ben was a jack of all trades and master of none. He loved the outdoors, hunting and fishing with his family and friends; ice fishing was his favorite, and he always drilled more holes than necessary. Charles Edward Williams, 73, of Duluth passed away on May 3, 2024, at Hilltop Healthcare Center. He was born Jan. 9, 1951, in Duluth, the son of Edward and Hazel (Schultz) Williams. Charles graduated from Cloquet High and served in the U.S. Air Force. He worked as a cab driver for Yellow Cab in Duluth for many years. Warren E. "Andy" Anderson, 88, of Cloquet passed away June 4, 2024, at his home. He was born May 9, 1936, in McGregor, Minnesota, the son of Elmer and Mary (Meacham) Anderson. Andy graduated from Cloquet High School in 1954 and from the University of Minnesota Duluth in 1958. They did it the hard way, but the Esko baseball team is the 2024 Section 7AA champion again. The defending state champs fell to Marshall Wednesday 9-0 but climbed back into the championship game and won a trip back to State.
