The 1947 Esko basketball team sported igloos on its warm-ups as seen with players Dick Lovestrand and Armand Johnson next to coach Les Knuti, who is said to have coined the Esko-Mo nickname in the early 1940s. Efforts to change the nickname and iconography around it have lingered for decades. It came up again recently as social justice issues have risen across the country and the globe.
