Spectators cheer for Cloquet musher Billie Thompson and her dogs at the start of the Beargrease 120, the mid-distance race. Thompson said she entered this year's race primarily to give her yearling dogs, out of Rock Creek Kennel in Wrenshall, more experience. They dropped out after the first leg due to two dogs with sore hips and an injured loaner dog, but they learned some valuable lessons, she said.
