Obituary: Donald E. Carlson

Don Carlson, 87, of Billings, Mont., passed away on May 16, 2019.

Don was born Oct. 13, 1931, the eighth son of Albert and Sevia Carlson in Cloquet, Minn. He grew up on the farm in Mahtowa and graduated from Barnum High School in 1950.

In July of 1956, he married Gail Nylander in Duluth. Don's working years were spent with Duluth-Superior Transit, Twin City Rapid Transit and Roley Feed Mill, and he retired after 24 years with Greyhound. In retirement, he and his wife drove and directed tours in the U.S. and Canada with Toby Tours and later managed a senior citizen apartment complex in Laurel, Mont.

He held membership and served in many capacities in the Lutheran church all of his life. He loved to travel and had been in all 50 states, Canada, Central America, Europe, Israel, and on several ocean cruises. The best trip was his 60th anniversary cruise to Alaska with all his family.

Preceding Don in death were his parents and seven brothers.

Don is survived by his wife of 62 years, Gail; his four children, Deborah Goodell (Steve), Mark (Jody), David (Sandy) and Todd (Jodi); 12 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and Gene.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 25, 2019 at Laurel Baptist Church in Laurel, Mont.
