Obituary: Phillip R. Larson

May 31, 2019

Phillip R. Larson, 58, of Sawyer, Minn. passed away Saturday, June 1, 2019 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Duluth.

He was born May 14, 1961 in Cloquet to Raymond and Lucille (Jankowski) Larson.

Phill graduated from Cloquet High School in 1979 and attended Lake Superior College to be a mechanic. He worked at Crown Auto in Duluth, Lakeland Tire in Cloquet, Upper Lakes Foods in Cloquet and was currently working for Rihm Leasing in Cloquet.

Phill was a man of great faith, loved God and his parish church, St. Mary and Joseph’s Catholic Church in Sawyer and his family. He was “rough around the edges” but had a heart of gold. He had a very special sense of humor that enlightened any gathering, especially at the expense of his nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed by everyone.

Phillip was preceded in death by his father; one son, Kyle Sims; nephew, Alexander Larson; cousin, Craig Larson; and his good friend, “Big John” Krause.

He is survived by his wife Gwen; mother, Lucille Larson; daughter, Kaley Larson; sons Kyle (Samantha) Larson and Eric Sims; grandson, Eli Larson; two brothers, Bradley (Missy) Larson and Patrick (Jeni Jackson) Larson; three sisters, Linda (Dan) Wappes, Diane (Dwight) Cadwell, and Jennifer (Brian) Ninneman; and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation: 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, June 4, 2019 at Nelson Funeral Care in Cloquet, then 11 a.m. until the 12 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial Wednesday, June 5 at St. Mary and Joseph’s Catholic Church in Sawyer. A luncheon and a time of fellowship will follow. Interment service will be at Sawyer Cemetery.
