Joey Kotiranta of Sawyer won fourth place in the Minnesota Sings amateur vocal competition last weekend, the second time he's competed in the annual contest, held in Woodbury this year. In the first round of competition, Kotiranta sang "I've Got You Under My Skin" and got some excellent feedback from the judges. At the end of the day the judges picked four people from each age group that would go to the Sweet 16 finals. Kotiranta sang another Rat Pack favorite, "Ain't That A Kick In The Head," and finished fourth overall. He won $500, a two-hour recording session at a recording studio and $250 for the Cromwell Community Club, which sponsored him.

The Cromwell-Wright school is now sponsoring a BackPack Program at the elementary school through the Second Harvest Northern Lakes Food Bank. Forms were sent home with students for parents to sign up for the program by Oct. 7. The BackPack Program provides a bag of nutritious food for your child for the weekend throughout the school year. Each bag contains a variety of items including main entrées, breakfast items, fruit, vegetables, snacks and often juice or shelf-stable milk. Program participants receive their bags at the end of the day on the last day of the school week. Call 218-644-3...
