Obituaries: Kenneth Lloyd Port

Kenneth Lloyd Port, 58, passed away peacefully from cancer on Sept. 27, 2019, surrounded by his family.

He was born Oct. 18, 1960. Ken was a law professor at Mitchell Hamline School of Law in St. Paul for 18 years. He served as a co-director of the Intellectual Property Institute, and was a faculty advisor to the Student Intellectual Property Law Association and the Cybaris Intellectual Property Law Review. Ken had a lifelong passion for Japan, spoke Japanese fluently, and lived in Japan several times with his wife and daughters. Ken also served as president and as a board member of the Japan America Society of Minnesota. Ken loved traveling with his family, teaching abroad, writing articles and books, spending time at his cabin in Wisconsin, and cooking for friends and family.

Ken is survived by his wife, Paula; daughters Emily and Elissa; as well as his parents, Robert and Jean Port of Cloquet; and siblings Kathy, Mary Jean, Mike, Terri, Nancy, and Brenda.
