October 11, 2019

Esko High School sophomore Jackson Pfister died Friday following a cardiac event that occurred during Friday’s varsity football game.

According to a message sent out electronically to Esko school district families from school administration on Saturday morning, Pfister passed away “after receiving emergency medical care for a cardiac event that occurred near the end of the Esko varsity football game in Aitkin in which he was playing.”

Pfister is the son of Matt and Brooke Pfister, a third grad teacher at Esko's Winterquist Elementary, and the brother of Nolan, a seventh grader at Esko. Jackson also played baseball for Esko.

School administration asked Esko school families to keep the family and their extended Esko family “in your thoughts and prayers in their time of incomprehensible loss.”

On campus grief and trauma support services were available as needed for students when school resumed on Monday. The district also held a gathering Sunday afternoon.

Further details and the exact cause of death are not available at this time.
