It’s that time of year again ... what time, you ask? Well, time for those wonderful church and community dinners. Here are some coming up soon in our area; if you know of others, please let me know so I can get them into this news column.

• The Hunters Supper at the Cromwell Pavilion, sponsored by the Cromwell Area Community Club, will be held 5-7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 8. Only $10 for adults. Volunteers are needed too.

•Hunters Supper and bake sale at the Round Lake Presbyterian Church on County Road 6 (Goshawk Ave.) 5-9 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 9.

•The Lakeside Community Club holds it annual Hunters Mojakka Stew Supper at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Wright 4:30-8 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 16 (note the change of date from last week’s news). There will be drawings for small raffle prizes beginning at 5:50 p.m. Proceeds go toward a new roof for the Lakeside school.

There will be no school Thursday and Friday, Oct. 17 and 18 due to MEA, and Monday, Oct. 21 due to teacher in-service.

School pictures retake day is Monday, Oct. 28.

Congratulations to the cross-county team! The team went to Grand Marais for the Polar League Conference meet. Our junior high started the day off with Aurora Gervais taking second, and new team member Nevaeh Manninen coming in eighth. Our JV runners were awesome with Amber Collman getting third, Maddie Running taking seventh, and Damion Warren fighting for ninth. Earning All-Conference honors were Noah Foster placing second, Cameron Dickey getting fourth, and Ben Hansen destroying two in his final sprint for eighth place. And lastly, Cromwell-Wright again has a Polar League champion! Emaleigh Olesiak dominated her race, taking first place by roughly 30 seconds. The team had many team members getting personal best runs and everyone ran awesome. The last regular season meet is Tuesday in Proctor. Great job, Team — we are so proud of the great work you are all doing ~ from coaches Mr. and Mrs. Koenig.

There will be two Veterans Day programs on Monday, Nov. 11: the first at 10 a.m. at the Villa Vista for all area veterans and residents, and at 1:30 p.m. in the Cromwell-Wright school.

The school music department is looking for barbershop-style hats. If you have some to donate, contact MaryRose at the school, 644-3737 ext. 3100.

Buying a yearbook this year?! They are available for purchase right now until Dec. 6, for $40 (hardcover) or $38 (softcover).

The annual Chilloween Kids’ Party will be held 5-11 p.m. Friday, Oct. 25 at the Cromwell Park Pavilion. Watch future bus bulletins for more information. We rely completely on volunteers and donations to provide this fun, free event for the kids, so please contact Brenda Nyberg at 218-390-4570 if you are willing to help out in any way.

The Lakeside Community Club children’s pumpkin party is 3-5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26. There will be games, crafts and food, and prizes for costumes, toddler through teen. Come join in the fun at the club, 2 miles south on County Road 22 (South Finn Road) off Highway 210, between Wright and Tamarack.

Community yoga is 11 a.m.-12 p.m. Monday, Oct. 21 at the Cromwell Pavilion (no yoga Oct. 28).

A free community movie night is planned for Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Wright, on Monday, Oct. 21, at 6:30 p.m. Everyone is welcome to the screening of "Rigoletto.”

Extreme Teens Youth Group: Free outdoor (weather permitting) movie night 7-9 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26. All kids in grades 6-9 are welcome to attend. Snacks provided.

The last YOT senior dance of the year will be held 1-4 p.m. Oct. 24, with music by Marie Oja. It was also decided to have senior dances in January and February 2020 if music can be lined up for those months. There are no YOT senior dances in November and December this year.

Bill and Judy Haapoja will be at Villa Vista on 6-7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 28. All community members are welcome for these special evenings of music.

Jessie Halek has just announced that Lakes Sanitary Service is now Countryside Sanitation. There will be some changes in the routes, but service will continue on a timely basis. These changes are due to Jeff Hooper’s retirement and Jessie’s purchase of his half of the business. We do thank both of them for the fine service over the past decades and hope their future is picking up (hee hee!).
