Christian Galatz scored 2 goals for the ’Jacks, but it wasn’t enough to overcome a three-goal second period for the Bengals. Aaron Moore added the third goal for CEC and also assisted on the first goal from Galatz. Galatz scored just 25 seconds into the game, but Blaine hammered home three goals in the second to gain a 3-2 lead entering the final period.

The Rebels fell behind 2-0 after one period and 5-1 after two periods. They rallied in the final period only to fall short in the loss. Scoring for the Rebels were Henry Ribich, Jack Brophy, Jordan Fjosne and Paxton Vogel.

Ava Hill of the Giants outscored the entire Bomber squad by tossing in 32 points and Hannah Hannuksela added 12 for the Giants in a first-round win at the Esko Coaches Classic. Allison Marine led the Bombers with seven points, it was six for both Gracie Nelson and MaKenzze Schleret, Rayna Klejeski added five and Anessa Davis and Kendal Militich each scored three points.

Playing in their opening game of the Mountain Iron-Buhl Invitational, the Cardinals sprinted out to a 51-23 halftime lead and then put things on cruise control to come away with the win. Leading the Cards in scoring was Taya Hakamaki with 32 points and Shaily Hakamaki with 17 points. Natalee Hakamaki added nine for C-W, while Emmalee Hoover and Andrea Pocernich each scored eight. Katherine Libbon added a pair of points and Lacie Zoeller chipped in with a point.

The Bulldogs led by three points at halftime, 30-27, and then pulled away for the win over the Bluestreaks. Ben Soderstrom had a big night in the middle for the Bulldogs with 17 points while both Matt Santkuyl and Ryan Gray each finished with 13 points. Justin Swanson added seven for the ’Dogs, while Justin Swanson added seven points. Adam Hey and Caide Northrup scored six each, Sawyer Thorman finished with two points and Austin Parker had a point for the winners.

The Rebels’ high-scoring offense was held in check by Concordia Academy who had two players score 20 points or more in the game. Mason Olson had a huge night for the Rebels with 33 points. Also in double-digit scoring for ML/WR were Sam Dewey with 17 and Brady Watrin with 11. Logan Orvehahl scored three for the Rebels and Drew Danielson had one point in the St. Cloud Cathedral Holiday Tournament.

The Golden Bears rode a balanced scoring attack from Ellie Jankila with 14 points and 10 points each from Lauren Latvaaho and Morgan Marks to the win in the Esko Coaches Classic.

Boys Hockey

The Pioneers netted two late goals in the first period and then added three goals in the second period to cruise to the win over the ’Jacks at the Wayzata Invitational. Jake Huhta picked up the only goal for the ’Jacks on the power play in the third period. Jacob Walsh and Owen Carlson combined for 14 saves on 20 shots on goal for the ’Jacks. CEC put 19 shots on Pioneer netminder Remington Keopple who made 18 saves.

Austin Bruins-2 (shoot out)

Kimball Johnson scored the only goal in the shootout as Wilderness picked up a big win at home on Friday night. Austin led it 2-0 in the second period, but the Wilderness answered on a goal by Bram Scheerer midway through the period to cut the gap to 2-1. Scheerer added his second goal of the game at 12:52 of the third period with a power play goal with assists to Blake Holmes and Johnson. Kaleb Johnson had a stellar game in the nets for the Wilderness by making 32 saves on 34 shots.

Saturday, Dec. 28

Boys Hockey

Centennial-3

Christian Galatz pumped in three goals including the game winner at 5:43 of overtime to give the ‘Jacks the win in the Wayzata Invitational. Galatz was assisted on the game-winning goal by Aaron Moore who had a couple of assists in the game. After Centennial scored to open the game Galatz answered late in the first period on an assisted power play goal to end the first period tied at 1-1. Centennial scored the only two goals of the second period, giving them a 3-1 lead heading into the final period, but Galatz scored at 5:16 from Moore, pulling the ‘Jacks to within a goal and then it was Jake Huhta from Galatz and Hunter Finnila scoring on the power play at 9:30 to send the game into overtime where Galatz won it with his third goal. Owen Carlson made 24 saves on 27 shots in picking up the win in the nets.

Moose Lake Area-6

Ely-4

The Rebels trailed 4-2 entering the final period before rallying for the win. Henry Ribich and Jordan Fjosne scored second- period goals to keep the Rebels close and then in the third period it was Ribich scoring at the four minute mark followed by back-to-back goals from Fjosne 5:11 and 15:28 and then Adam Olson at 16:20 wrapped up the Rebel scoring for the win. Henry Dammer made 28 saves for the Rebels in the nets.

The Rebels rebounded from their first round loss behind the 16 points of Mason Olson and the 12 points of Brady Watrin to take the victory in the St. Cloud Cathedral Tournament. Michael Olson added nine points, it was seven for Logan Orvedahl, Sam Dewey added six, Landin Kurhajetz and Chance Lunde both had four points, Ben Dewey and Carter Johnson each recorded three points to round out the scoring.

Trailing 23-21 at halftime the Bombers exploded in the second half and outscored the Grizzlies by 14 points in the second half to take the win in the final round of the Esko Coaches Classic. Leading the offensive barrage for the Bombers were Allison Marine with 14 points and MaKenzee Schleret and Rayna Klejeski each had 10 points. Gracie Nelson chipped in with eight points, it was six for Madison Warnygora, Anessa Davis added three and both Kyra Heaton and Olivia Bogenholm finished with a pair of points.

Wilderness-3

The Minnesota Wilderness fell behind 6-1 after two periods and were never able to get back into the game as the Bruins managed a split on the weekend.
