Esko actors take 'Our Place' to Two Harbors

January 24, 2020

Esko student actors Paul Gannucci-Jonathan and Kendra Putzke-Beth share the stories that make a favored dock their special place.

Esko High School actors will transport their audience and judges to the lakeside in their One Act performance of "Our Place."

The play is composed of five scenes and an epilogue, all of which take place on a dock, explained director Joyce Bergstedt. Each group of characters that comes to the dock claims it as "our place" for a variety of reasons. The play concludes with all characters returning to the stage for at least a part of the epilogue in which the characters express their point of view of what the dock - Our Place - means to them.

"This program gives students the opportunity to participate in an additional theatrical performance but with unique nuances, such as time restraints, limited storage of props and set pieces, along with limited set up time," said Bergstedt, noting that a number of students in this year's one-act play also participated in the fall musical.

A total of 17 Esko students will be competing in the One-Act Play Subsection competition at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 25 at Two Harbors High School. This play by Terry Gabbard is being produced by special arrangement with The Dramatic Publishing Company, Inc. of Woodstock, Illinois.

After this week's Pine Knot News went to press, the students performed "Our Place" locally at 6 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 23, in the high school theater for any members of the public who wanted to attend.
