Obituary: Archie Edward Putnam

Archie Edward Putnam, 91, of Cloquet, passed away Saturday, Jan. 25, 2020, at Solvay Hospice House in Duluth with his family at his side.

He was born May 18, 1928, to Aaron and Katherine (Nathan) Putnam in Linton, North Dakota. Archie married Maxine Young in Cloquet on Oct. 19, 1957. They were longtime members of Queen of Peace Catholic Church. Archie worked on a ranch for two years in Linton and on the Garrison Dam in Riverdale, North Dakota prior to moving to Minnesota in 1950. Archie began his 34-year career in Cloquet at the Wood Conversion Company, which became the Conwed Corporation. He continued to work as a mechanic, repairing equipment on Schwan's trucks for a few years until he retired.

Archie enjoyed spending time traveling with the love of his life, Maxine. He loved spending time with his kids and grandchildren. Archie will be remembered as a great storyteller, and for his ability to fix anything. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed camping with his family.

Archie was preceded in death by his parents; sister Irene Dockter; and brother Jim Putnam.

He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Maxine; his children, Brenda (Ken) Pallin, Craig (Carrie) Putnam and Sharon (David Smith) Putnam; siblings Duane (Evelyn) Putnam, Donald (Geraldine) Putnam and Lorene Borin; sister in-law, Noreen Sandwick; his grandchildren, Logan, Kendra, Madison, Javv, Willow and Max; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation: 9 a.m., with a rosary at 10:30 a.m., until the 11 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial Saturday, Feb. 1 at Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Cloquet. A luncheon will follow in the church social hall. Interment will be in New Calvary Cemetery.
