Obituaries: Charlotte A. Johnson

February 7, 2020

Charlotte A. Johnson, 81, of Cloquet died peacefully Feb. 1, 2020, in the presence of family.

She was born Sept. 19, 1938, in Cloquet to Carl Elon Johnson and Bernadette Fern (Mullen) Johnson. Charlotte lived her entire life in Carlton County. She married handsome Korean War veteran Arthur A. Johnson on June 16, 1956, and started a family. Raising four kids was her job and she was good at making ends meet even when they had no right to. Charlotte was creative. She made Christmas nativity figures out of dime-store materials and made paper wedding flowers for friends and family. She would see ideas in magazines or other sources and figure out ways to do them herself. Just days before she became ill, she was planning her next craft project. Charlotte was a voracious reader. She loved Agatha Christie and John Grisham. If she wasn't working on a project or reading, she would be watching the Hallmark Channel. Charlotte loved her grandchildren. She had the patience of Job with them and always had something special for them to do when they visited. Her favorite people other than her grandchildren were animals. In the last few years, one of her favorite visitors was Sophie, her grand-doggie.

Charlotte was preceded in death by her parents.

She is survived by her husband, Arthur; her four children, Tim Johnson, Terry (Julie) Johnson, Todd (Lisa) Johnson, and Trish Johnson; two brothers, Jim (Pauline) Johnson and Jerry (Carol) Johnson; her sister, JoAnn (Curt) Oswell; 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; and numerous cousins, family relatives and friends.

Visitation: 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. funeral service Saturday, Feb. 15 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Cloquet. A luncheon will follow in the church social hall. All memorials will be donated to the Carlton County Historical Society in her name. Online condolences may be left at http://www.nelson funeralcare.net.
