Cloquet schools announce details of childcare for emergency workers and kids already enrolled

The Cloquet School District sent out an update regarding childcare, both for the children of medical and emergency responders mandated by the governor and already enrolled children.

Due to the school closure ordered by the governor from March 18th thru March 27th the following actions will be taken by the Cloquet School District and Kids’ Corner in regards to the care of children during this time.
Kids’ Corner will remain open from 6 am to 6 pm March 18th-20th, March 23rd-27th, and March 30th to provide care for all families currently enrolled. We will continue to provide Kids’ Corner at our Zion location. Our current rate of $3.50 per hour will be charged for ALL families utilizing Kids’ Corner and families will need to provide a cold lunch.
All families who are part of the Medical and Emergency profession (as defined by the Governor), as well as Cloquet district staff, will be offered free care for their children for March 18th-20th under the following guidelines:
Qualifications:
The district will follow the Governor’s definition of emergency worker for eligibility for free care. This definition is:
Healthcare Personnel
Emergency Medical Services Personnel (full-time)
Law Enforcement Personnel
Firefighter Personnel
Personnel providing Correctional Services
Public Health Employees
Court Personnel
If you qualify as an emergency worker or are an employee of Cloquet Public Schools, your children who are enrolled in our schools and are 12 years of age or younger can receive care at their school of attendance (Washington Elementary, Churchill Elementary and Cloquet Middle School).
Care and lunch will be provided at no cost to you between the hours of 8am-3pm at our elementary sites and 8:30am-3:30pm at the middle school on March 18th, 19th, and 20th. On the first day you utilize this care option, you will need to bring your student(s) into the main office of the school and verify your employment as an emergency worker by presenting a work badge/work identification or a letter indicating your employment as an emergency worker. After you have provided proper verification, transportation can be coordinated for future dates by contacting Cloquet Transit at 879-1291. We will have a staff member positioned in the school office to check your child in and out. You will need to provide us with the following information:
Parent name
Child name
Any allergy your child may have
Other individuals authorized to pick up your child, if other than you
Proof in the form of a badge or letter from your employer proving that you work for one of the eligible agencies
Adults will need to provide identification when picking up their student(s). Pick up will be at the main building office. Please ensure you have identification or communicate this to your authorized pick up contacts. There will be no transportation provided until you have verified your emergency worker status and coordinated transportation with Cloquet Transit. Cloquet Transit will arrange pick up times and dates with individual families. You will need to continue to arrange for pick up and drop off of your child until these arrangements are confirmed.
Should the need arise for an extended closure, we will work to expand hours of care to support our emergency workers and staff. As a reminder, this care service will not be provided during normal school closures, such as the upcoming spring break and staff day on March 23rd-30th.
