Pine Knot News intern Caleb Swanson asked Carlton County students how they feel about plans to reopen schools this fall:

"I don't want to go back because online was easier for me. But on the other hand, I do want to go back to be with my friends and just be in school again. The one thing I do not want Esko to do is to keep kids in the same classroom every day."

Caden Grayson, Esko sophomore

"I for sure want everything to go back to normal but I doubt that will happen. I'm hoping Esko still has normal sports seasons and we can be in school at least part-time."

Eleanor Grady, Esko junior

"I hope that we go back to school with proper mask wearing and social distancing. It's been so long since I've seen a lot of my friends and it would be nice to regain a sense of normalcy."

Sam Buytaert, Cloquet junior

"I want in-school rather than online. It's my senior year. It's important to have real time with teachers and to socialize with friends."

Brandi Collman, Cromwell-Wright senior

"I think the safest way to do school would be online because there's so many obstacles with physically going to school and trying to keep the building clean and Covid-free. I personally enjoy doing school online because I can sleep in and do my work on my own time. But I'm privileged enough to have a home environment that I'm comfortable staying in for extended periods of time. Unfortunately that's not the same for everyone and that's where it gets tricky. But I strongly believe it would be irresponsible to send everyone back to school and I think it would add a lot of extra stress on the teachers, especially in the elementary schools."

Natalie Hoffman, Cloquet senior

"I would like to go back to school so I could enjoy my senior year with my friends and I would love to play my senior year of sports."

Spencer Rousseau, Carlton senior

"I don't know exactly what is going to happen but I'm hoping we start with the hybrid system ... because I think that's the safest thing to do. I am also worried about Snoball and prom because they're something I've always looked forward to in high school and my class' first prom was canceled last year."

Morgan VanReese, Cloquet senior
