Updated: Law enforcement investigate assault in Thomson Township

August 7, 2020

Following a request for a welfare check at a residence in Thomson Township at 12:45 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 6, the Minnesota State Patrol located a seriously injured adult female who was determined to be the victim of an assault. Esko Fire, Cloquet Area Fire District, and Life Link III Air Ambulance tended to, and transported the victim.

During the course of the investigation, a suspect, a woman, was identified and located in the Twin Cities metro area. The suspect was taken into custody and transported to the Carlton County Jail. Preliminary charges are first degree assault-great bodily harm and second degree assault-dangerous weapon, but those charges could be changed by the time she makes her court appearance. The suspect was arrested in 2011 for a violent assault. As a general practice, the Pine Knot does not name criminal suspects before they appear in court.

The Carlton County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the matter with the assistance of the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension. The victim and suspect were known to each other and the Sheriff’s Office is not looking for any other suspects.
