Rodney Marvin King, 73, was born in Cumberland, Wisconsin on Nov. 23, 1946, and died Sept. 13, 2020, at Twin Ports Health Services in Superior.

Rodney was raised in Esko, graduating from Lincoln High in 1964. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1964 at age 17, and served two tours, 1964-1974, during the Vietnam War. He earned three Bronze Stars and a Vietnam Campaign Medal while serving as a Navy Radioman. Rodney worked at the Carlton County Sheriff's Office after his military service. He then attended college, receiving a bachelor of arts degree in 1988 and a master's degree in psychology in 1995 from the College of St. Scholastica in Duluth. After college he worked as a medical social worker at the Fond du Lac Reservation before staying home to care for his wife. Rodney loved fishing, Ford trucks, his dogs, reading and writing. He was a member of the Holy Family Catholic Church.

Rodney is preceded in death by his wife of 32 years, Nadine King; ex-wife, Nancy Howes; son Christopher King; stepson David DePoe; his parents, Marvin and Muriel (Ott) King; and brothers David and Michael King.

Rodney is survived by his children Kathryn King, Michelle King and Robert King; stepchildren Patty (Fred) Petite, Jaime DePoe, Melanie (Dale) Sautbine, Andrew (Christine) DePoe and Roger (Vickie) Smith; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brothers Tommy King, Robin King, Kim King and Dana (Barb) King; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visitation: 6-8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 18, with the funeral service at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 19, all at Nelson Funeral Care, Cloquet. Burial to follow at New Holy Family Cemetery.
