Leroy DeFoe of Cloquet died Dec. 20 at age 72. He played a vital role in preserving the legacy of the Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa by being a keeper of its history. Here, we are printing DeFoe's own words, from the FDL website, on the creation of the tribal logo in 1981. We will profile DeFoe in a story next week.
