January 15, 2021

James (Jim), 82, and Judy, 81, of Cloquet, Minnesota passed away after 62 years of marriage within hours of each other in their winter home in Yuma, Arizona on Jan. 11, 2021. Lifelong residents of Cloquet, Jim, born on June 12, 1938 and Judy, born on May 18, 1939, started dating in 9th grade (Class of ‘57), and were married on Nov. 21 of 1959. Jim was a former member of the National Guard, drove Bus #5 for more than 35 years for Cloquet Transit and was a head custodian for the Cloquet School district for many years. He is remembered for his ability to regularly win at cribbage, procuring not only one but two 29 hands, and his loud infectious laugh. He enjoyed his morning coffee at McDonald's with friends. He will be missed on the golf course as Team Proulx’s captain, driver and No. 1 fan.

Judy, the matriarch of the family, also a former Cloquet school district employee, will be remembered for her excellent cooking, love of dogs and her cries of “Happy Hour!” from the living room of her home, no matter the hour. She will be missed for her amazing bread rolls, her wonderful smile and the love she showed for her family. Their love of travel allowed them to meet many people, forming lifelong friendships. This love of travel has passed down to their children and grandchildren and was always encouraged.

Jim and Judy are survived by their three sons, Jimmy (Vivian), Todd (Clare) and Commissioner Tommy Proulx; grandkids, Mara, Danielle, Emily, Max (Hannah) and Alyson (John); as well as several nieces and nephews.

They were preceded in death by their parents, Leonard and Alice Proulx and Police Chief Charles and Loretta Weselik; as well as sisters, Lorraine (Proulx) Carter and Doug Sr., and Betty (Proulx) Schilling and Edward.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Cloquet Education Foundation-Athletics or Community Memorial scholarships in their name.

Visitation will be Friday, Jan. 29, 2021 from 2 p.m. until the 3 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial at Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Cloquet. Inurnment will follow at New Calvary Cemetery. Arrangements are with Nelson Funeral Care of Cloquet.
