Obituary: Sharon Joy Merrill

Sharon J. Merrill, 68, died March 24, 2021, at North Shore Estates in Duluth after a short battle with cancer. She was born Sept. 12, 1952, to James and Ailie (Laine) Merrill in Cloquet.

Sharon was a licensed practical nurse in her younger years and then worked at Super One Foods in West Duluth for 27 years until retiring. She loved to visit with customers, and some would wait in her line for the chance to chat with her.

Sharon loved to bake treats for her friends and co-workers. She enjoyed the outdoors, fishing and spending time with family and friends. Sharon will be remembered for her love of 1970s music and caring for her mother, Ailie, over the years.

She was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Cloquet for many years.

Sharon was preceded in death by her father, James Merrill, and her brother, Gary “Teddy” Merrill.

She is survived by her mother, Ailie Merrill; son, James “Jim” Merrill; sister, Jane Bakke; granddaughters, DeRae Sample and Julia Merrill; nieces, Erin (Bob) Walloch and Angie (Paul) Tangen; great-nephews, Cooper Walloch and Harrison Tangen; and her special pets, Stella and Rosie.
