Although most athletes hope to make it to the Minnesota track and field state tournament in just one event, Olivia Jameson managed to earn a spot in three during last week's girls Section 7AA championship meet in Cloquet.

With heavy competition from southern schools such as Andover and Forest Lake, the Cloquet junior swept her events with a win in the 100-meter hurdles, high jump, and triple jump at the section meet June 9. She will be the only Cloquet girl competing at the 2021 Minnesota track and field state tournament Saturday.

"I had pretty good competition, so that definitely pushed me," said Jameson. "It was just fun to get out there and compete against so many great athletes and see everyone do so well."

In the 100-meter hurdles, she beat second-place Elise Harriman of Hermantown with a time of 15.84 seconds, only 0.5 second off of her personal record.

In the high jump, Jameson soared over the 5-5 bar to take first, beating second-place Ada Schlenker from Cambridge-Isanti by 3 inches. Jameson will be tied for first seed at the state meet.

Her triple jump of 35-5 secured her third win of the day, even though it fell 1 foot, 4 inches short of her personal record.

"I'm happy I made a mark in triple, even though I know I could do better. My goal is to mark a better jump at state because I know I'm capable of it," Jameson said.

Jameson is adding these achievements to her rapidly growing athletic portfolio, which includes a Minnesota state track and field trip in the high jump and 100-meter hurdles and a state soccer trip, both during her freshman year.

At the 2019 state track meet, Jameson finished 10th in the 100-meter hurdles preliminaries, just missing the finals. She tied for eighth in the high jump.

"I think I'm definitely going into state in a better position than my ninth-grade season," Jameson said. "I hope to at least improve my personal records and do the best that I can and put it all out there."
