Three area soccer players are part of a Duluth premier-level soccer team that made it all the way to the Midwest Presidents Cup in Ohio last month. From left, Carson Essler, Ryan Tomsche and Spencer Teitelbaum play for the Gitchi Gummi U17 premier team, which won the Minnesota Presidents Cup tournament in May to advance to the regionals in June. They won three games there, beating Illinois, Missouri and Ohio before falling to Kansas 2-1 in the semifinals. Tomsche had an assist during the tournament. Other members of the team hail from Duluth, Superior and Maple, Wisconsin. According to media reports, this is the furthest any Duluth youth soccer team has advanced on the premier level in the history of Duluth soccer.
