Obituary: Duane Edward Johnson

Duane Edward Johnson, 87, of Cloquet, passed away Saturday, Sept. 4, 2021, at Sunnyside Health Care Center. He was born Oct. 28, 1933, in Cloquet to Edward and Sieva (Lehto) Johnson. Duane grew up in Cromwell and graduated from Cromwell High School in 1951. On April 27, 1957, he married Shirley Laine.

Duane worked his entire life as a master carpenter and a sawmill sawyer. He built log homes and many pieces of fine furniture. He served in the U.S. Army 1955 through 1957. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, reading, dancing and spending time with his family.

Duane was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and two sisters.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Shirley; his children, Dale (Wendy), Ann (Steve) Small, and Elaine (Bub) Hoblitt; and 10 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Visitation: 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. memorial service Friday, Sept. 10 at Atkins Northland Funeral Home, 801 14th St., Cloquet. Military honors will be accorded by the Cloquet Combined Honor Guard.
