Obituaries: Loren E. Terp

Loren E. Terp, 92, of Carlton passed away Tuesday, Sept. 7, 2021 in Inter-Faith Care Center. He was born July 2, 1929, in St. Louis Park to Peter and Bernice Terp. He grew up in the St. Louis Park area and married Ann Huisinger on July 22, 1950.

Loren worked at turkey farms in Canby, Biglow and Worthington, then they moved to Cloquet and worked at Diamond Brands, Potlatch and Conwed. At one point he was working for all three at the same time. He taught first aid classes at Potlatch and for the Red Cross. He served the community as a Carlton County deputy for 21 years, and was also responsible for starting the Rescue Squad. He also did sign painting and was active with the 11 Meter Mounty Radio Club. Loren loved animals, and that truly showed when he was around his dogs. He liked working on and fixing cars, as well as camping.

Loren was preceded in death by his parents; stepfather, Kenneth Mether; and son Glen Allan Terp.

He is survived by his wife, Ann Terp; sons Dean of Cloquet and Jerry Terp of Kenai, Alaska; daughter, Jean Terp of Cloquet; half-brothers, Don and Bob Mether; and seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Visitation: 12 p.m. until the 1 p.m. memorial service Tuesday, Sept. 21 at Atkins-Northland Funeral Home, 801 14th St., Cloquet. A luncheon will follow the service in the Fireside Room of the funeral home. Inurnment will be in Perch Lake Cemetery.
