Obituary: Donald Ray Henninger

Donald Ray Henninger, 91, passed away on Saturday, Nov. 27, 2021. He was born in Barnum on April 27, 1930, to Ralph and Nora (Fall) Henninger. He grew up in the Nemadji area, where he attended Central School.

At age 17, Don went to work for Diamond Match in Cloquet, where he became a 1st Class engineer.

In 1949, Don married Carol Willey and they spent 72 wonderful years together. In 1965, they purchased a dairy farm outside of Mahtowa, where they spent the rest of their lives. They worked side by side building the farm while they raised four children.

After retirement, Don and Carol traveled throughout the United States with their camping group, the Crafty Travelers.

Don was a master welder and a jack of all trades. He built numerous pieces of playground equipment that were enjoyed by many. He also built and repaired many pieces of farm equipment.

Don was a member of the Mahtowa Covenant Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Nora Henninger; brothers, Jim, Vernon and Ernie; and his children, Gary and Mary. He is survived by his wife, Carol; his daughters, Betty Denton and Deborah Renstrom; and his daughter-in-law, Kay Henninger. He is also survived by his brothers, Ed and Gordy; and his sister, Eleanore Riley.

Private family services were held. Arrangements were provided by Whispering Pines Funeral & Cremation Service.
