Girls from county and regional track teams compete in the steeplechase at Bromberg Field Friday afternoon. The Cloquet Relays puts a twist on normal track and field events.

The wacky track and field event invented in 2010 by Cloquet coach Tim Prosen was launched again last week as athletes from around the region competed in co-ed relays, a steeplechase with hay bales and pole vaulters sprinting with poles in tow. The Cloquet Relays have become a favorite break in what can be a compact season.

A unique feature of the relays is a race for pole vaulers who use their poles in tandem.
