Obituary: Betty Melin

Betty Annette Melin, 90, of Brookston passed away on Friday, May 27, 2022 in Inter-Faith Care Center in Carlton. She was born on November 8, 1931 to Helmer and Eva Peterson in Cokato, MN. The family moved to Minneapolis and then to Brookston where she graduated from Brookston High School in 1949.

Betty worked as a Cook at the Brookston Schools for 25 plus years. She most recently attended Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Cloquet. She went on many bus trips to places like Maine, Niagra Falls and Branson. She enjoyed fishing and camping trips, loved to sing, cook and bake. People were drawn to her sense of humor.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 plus years, Douglas; grandsons, Beau and Tyler; granddaughter, Melina; and great grandson Daniel Kilduff.

Betty will be greatly missed by her daughter, Judy (Dan) Hanson; sons, Bob (Ginger) and Steve (Cathy); grandchildren, Eric (Annie) Hanson, Justin Melin, Destanie (Jason) Pluhar and Mariah (Myles Boman) Melin; great grandchildren, Zion Melin, Devina Melin, Everett Pluhar, Justus Pluhar, Nicholas Hanson, Ava Hanson, Ally Spicer and Benjamin Kilduff.

Visitation: 10:00 a.m. until the 11:00 a.m. memorial service Friday, June 24, 2022 in Atkins Northland Funeral Home, 801 14th Street, Cloquet. A luncheon will follow in the Fireside Room of the funeral home. A private family burial will be held in Culver Cemetery at a later date.
