Obituary: Sharon Schneider

June 17, 2022

Sharon Schneider of Carlton passed away peacefully at home June 8, 2022, from breast cancer. She was not afraid to die because she knew she would be with God. Sharon had many health problems throughout her life but never let it stop her from doing what she loved to do — she always kept going.

Sharon was born Feb. 6, 1950, in Duluth, the daughter of Clarence and Mary (Essig) McKibbon. She graduated in 1968 from Carlton High School. Sharon married James Schneider on Oct. 13, 1969, and lived in Carlton most of her life in the house they built together as newlyweds. Sharon had three daughters, Maria, Jamie and Dawn, and two granddaughters, Annabeth and Jane. She was a member of the River’s Edge Church in Carlton (formally the J.M. Paine Presbyterian church). She worked at Garon Knitting and the Co-op, Diamond Tool and Potlatch credit unions, retiring in 2001 due to her health.

Sharon enjoyed 10 years as a seasonal camper at Cedar Point Resort, where she caught many walleyes, northerns and muskies. She was an avid knitter, making many baby sets, afghans, socks and sweaters. She loved having her hanging baskets and her flower gardens. She was always very competitive, a fun companion for fishing and playing cards with the Sunday night group. Her laugh was infectious.

Sharon was preceded in death by her parents, daughter Maria, and sister Sandra. She will be missed by her husband of 52 years, James; daughters Jamie (Scott) Gardner of Tucson, Arizona, and Dawn Johnson of Carlton; granddaughters Annabeth Johnson and Jane Lee Gardner; sister Carolyn McKibbon and her friend Shirley Shubert of Barnum; brother-in-law Mike Duffy of Cloquet; and nieces, nephews and cousins.

A special thank-you to Pastor Dennis Morreim for his home visits and serving Sharon communion. Also, thank you to St. Luke’s Hospice for helping Sharon and her family in her last weeks of life.

Services are pending at this time. To leave an online condolence for the family, visit http://www.nelsonfuneralcare.net.
