There may have to be a re-turning of the phrase "kid in a candy store" when it comes to the childlike excitement Saturday in Esko.

Kids at the Lakehead Harvest Festival last weekend had a wide variety of things to do and see, especially when it comes to the main attraction at the festival: tractors and engines and things that move in old-time fashion.

And the adults in attendance Saturday looked like kids as they fine-tuned their engines, planed boards, munched on steamed corn and burgers, and watched those kids fly about the place.

The train and hay wagon rides remained popular at the 61st annual three-day show that features vintage everything.

New this year were tractor driving lessons, so to speak. Children were able to take the seat and the wheel on a John Deere under direction of festival volunteers. A steady line of takers were in place all afternoon Saturday.

There was a bit of surprise in the animal park - a camel, and it drew plenty of volunteer grain feeders of all ages. There was an entertainment stage in the children's area as well, and the popular tractor and pedal pulls Saturday and Sunday along with a daily parade.
