Slow start to duck hunt

Conservation officer Tony Elwell of Cloquet reported that heavy fog and no wind made for a slow opening day of the waterfowl opener last weekend, according to a Minnesota Department of Natural Resources news release.

“Overnight northwest winds helped some hunters on Sunday,” the news release added, as good numbers of wood ducks and teal have been seen in the area.

Elwell observed violations including outdated ATV registrations, no helmet on juvenile ATV passengers, unplugged shotgun, unsigned federal waterfowl stamp, no license/stamps in possession, and insufficient life jackets aboard watercraft, the DNR said.
