Obituary: Lorraine "Rae" Charlotte Carpenter

December 23, 2022

Lorraine "Rae" Charlotte Carpenter passed away peacefully Sunday, Dec. 11, 2022, at Diamond Willow in Cloquet, surrounded by her family.

She was born Oct. 2, 1933, in Madison, Minnesota, the daughter of O.H. and Thelma (Thompson) Holtan. Rae graduated from Benson High School and the Minnesota School of Business and worked as a comptometer supervisor in downtown Minneapolis.

She married the love of her life, Donald Dean Carpenter, on Dec. 30, 1959, and moved to Carlton, where she worked 29 years at Charlotte's Café.

Rae was a member of Bethesda Lutheran Church in Carlton and taught Sunday School. She was also a member of the Green Socks social club.

Rae touched so many people - she was the most selfless, warm, and caring woman - always prioritizing her family and friends. The love that Rae's family has for her is indescribable and losing her will forever leave an empty space in their hearts.

The family would like to thank the staff at Diamond Willow and St. Croix Hospice for their compassionate care of their beloved Rae. A private family memorial service will be held at a later date.
