Ryan K. Nelson, 40, of Mound, Minnesota, passed away March 14, 2023. He was born Feb. 11, 1983, in Duluth to Keith and Judy (Mecl) Nelson. Ryan grew up in Esko with his parents and brother, Chad. The brothers were the best of friends. He graduated from Esko High School in 2001, where he excelled at baseball and basketball. Ryan spent one year at Hibbing Community College continuing his athletic pursuits. He graduated from Lake Superior College with a degree in electrical engineering technology. He worked hard at many different jobs, with one of his favorites at Whole Foods Co-op in Duluth.

Ryan cared deeply for his family and loved spending time with them. He continued to participate in sports, adding softball, downhill skiing and golf.

Ryan was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Henry and Thelma Nelson; maternal grandfather, Edward Mecl; and cousin, Blake Nelson. He is survived by his parents, Keith and Judy Nelson; brother, Chad (Kelly) Nelson; nephew, Henrik, and niece, Ingrid; maternal grandmother, Donna Mecl; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

A Celebration of Life for Ryan will be held 12-2 p.m. Saturday, March 25 at Nelson Funeral Care in Cloquet. Refreshments will be provided.
