Worker assaulted at Sex Offender Program

A 29-year-old man committed to the Minnesota Sex Offender Program in Moose Lake was arrested on assault charges Monday after causing a 53-year-old staff member to be airlifted from the facility.

The condition of the victim was not known late Monday, said a Carlton County Sheriff’s Office news release.

Carlton County 911 dispatch received a call from the Minnesota Sex Offender Program at Moose Lake at 1:23 p.m. Monday, reporting a client assault on a staff member. Sheriff’s Office deputies and Essentia Health ambulance services responded, along with Moose Lake Fire District personnel.

The accused male was arrested and transported to the Carlton County jail. He is being held on charges of second-degree assault and fourth-degree assault, pending formal charges by the Carlton County Attorney’s Office. The man has a history of assaults on staff members at MSOP.

The Pine Knot News generally does not name defendants prior to their being charged in District Court.

The incident is under investigation by the Sheriff’s Office, assisted by the Minnesota Department of Human Services.
