PHOTO STORY: Cloquet homecoming 2023

Homecoming went a little differently at Cloquet High School this year, with no "home" football field.

The coronation was celebrated during the high school pepfest Friday afternoon rather than halftime of the football game that evening in Proctor, the football team's home away from home while the Cloquet outdoor athletic complex is under construction.

Saige Moran and Madysen Waters were crowned 2023 Cloquet Homecoming king and queen after a couple hours of pep session fun, including tricycle and wheelbarrow races, musical chairs and a dance-off, won by the Spanish 4 class.

But with the football field 15 miles away, the game ball had to get there somehow.

Enter the Lumberjacks cross county team.

The team was tasked with running the homecoming game ball from the afternoon pepfest to Egerdahl Field in Proctor.

The boys and girls high school cross country team ran the ball through the back roads from Cloquet to Proctor as a relay with groups running 3- to 6-mile legs of the route. Senior runners Alexa Shepherd, Calvin Snesrud and Victoria Nelson ran the ball onto the field just before kickoff.
