Obituary: Charlyne Johnson-Dahl

Charlyne Johnson-Dahl, age 100 of Cloquet, Minnesota, passed away peacefully at her home of 74 years, surrounded by loved ones, on Wednesday, July 17, 2024. Charlyne was born on September 26, 1923, to Thomas and Irene Spies in Cloquet, Minnesota. In her early years, she enjoyed twirling the baton and ice skating. She graduated from Cloquet High School and shortly thereafter married Raymond Johnson. After spending a short time in Seattle, Washington, they returned to Cloquet and grew a family of seven boys, creating many memories and spending every summer at Round Lake and later Big Sandy.

After raising her children, Charlyne was delighted to begin work at the Johnson Company and Treasure Shop in Cloquet in addition to other small clothing boutiques. Charlyne and Raymond spent 50 years together before his passing and she was later united in marriage to Clifford Dahl for 21 years.

Charlyne was a member of Queen of Peace Church in Cloquet and cherished her faith. She enjoyed golfing, dancing, dinners, lunches, playing cards, knitting and was blessed with many friends who enriched her life, requiring a calendar and chalkboard to keep it all straight! In her retirement years, she enjoyed many winters in Mesa, Arizona, an Alaskan cruise and travelling to visit friends and family. Charlyne's life was filled with love, joy, and countless cherished memories. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of knowing her.

Charlyne is survived by her children Marshall (MaryAnn) Johnson, Steven Johnson, Thomas Johnson, Robert Johnson, and James Johnson; stepchildren Roger (Cathy) Dahl, Kay Dahl, and Joanne (John) Cook; twelve grandchildren; twenty-one great-grandchildren; and twelve great-great-grandchildren; niece Kathy (Bernie) Konsti; nephew Michael (Heidi) Spies; and many extended family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband's Raymond Johnson and Clifford Dahl; children William Johnson and Raymond Johnson; stepson Robert Dahl; daughter-in-law Carol Johnson; brother Thomas Spies; and grandson Anthony Johnson.

The family would like to thank Aspirus-St Lukes hospice for the care and attention they provided to Charlyne at her home.

Services will be held on Saturday, July 27, 2024, at Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Cloquet with visitation beginning at 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial. A Rosary will be at 10:30 a.m. Interment at New Calvary Cemetery will follow. Arrangements have been entrusted to Nelson Funeral Care.
