Obituary: Greg Day

Gregory Allen Day, 70, lifelong resident of Superior, passed away unexpectedly while fighting cancer on Tuesday, July 16, 2024, at St. Luke's Hospital in Duluth, Minnesota.

Greg was born in Superior on March 2, 1954, the son of Carl and Ella (Petzold) Day. He attended school in Superior, with the Class of 1972. He married the love of his life, Peggy Shykes, June 2, 1995, at Pattison State Park. They recently celebrated 29 wonderful years of marriage.

Greg worked as a mechanic most of his life. After that career was sidelined by a work accident, he pivoted to computers.

He was a brilliant man who could figure out how anything worked. He was also very sassy and was always making people laugh. Greg started every morning with a big cup of coffee. He loved watching his favorite team, the Packers. Above all, Greg loved his family and was looking forward to being a grandpa again.

He was a devoted husband and father and will be dearly missed by his wife, Peggy; son, Devin (Becca) Day; soon-to-be-granddaughter Addison; grandson, Kennedy, and his mother, Monica Foster; mother-in-law, Beth Shykes; sister-in-law Amy Shykes; special niece, Barbara Torgerson; best friend, Tom Wiberg; his fur babies, Max and Riley; and many other friends, nieces and nephews.

Greg was preceded in death by his parents; many siblings; father-in-law, Jack; brother-in-law, Doug; and sisters-in-law Jacquie and Donna.

A Celebration of Greg’s Life will be held from 5 to 7 p.m., Friday, Aug. 16, at the Downs-LeSage Funeral Home, 1304 Hammond Avenue in Superior. Arrangements with Lenroot-Maetzold Funeral Home.
