Holiday spirits high in Cloquet

There was no shortage of Santa sightings in Cloquet during the annual holiday celebration.

Santa read stories to the young ones at the Cloquet Public Library Thursday during the kickoff night of the Santa's Home for the Holidays celebration, then happily posed for photographs with children and families at Queen of Peace Friday night. On Saturday he sat obediently with scores of dogs and cats for pet photos. More than one Santa - and multiple Grinches - waved to the crowds during the parade down Cloquet Avenue Saturday. The only thing Old St. Nick didn't do was fly his reindeer across the sky in advance of the fireworks over downtown.

The number of non-profit organizations holding events during the holiday celebration is growing, said co-coordinator Jana Peterson.

"It's exciting to see people all coming together to turn this into something special," Peterson said. "We'd love to see that energy carry over into the parade next year. Let's light up downtown!"
