Joel J. San Filippo
Joel J. San Filippo, 87, of Cloquet, Minn. passed away Dec. 19, 2018 at St. Mary's Hospital in Duluth, Minn., surrounded by his family. He was born to James and Sally (Cowan) San Filippo on Dec. 7, 1931 in Milwaukee.
Joel is the last of his family to pass and joins his parents; brothers Al, Gino, John and Pete; and sister Dolly Linke, in Paradise with Christ our Lord.
He married Rose Kirzeder, the love of his life, on Nov. 5, 1963, who survives him. Joel also is survived by his loving daughters Roberta "Bobbi" Kortes and husband Dave, Betty "BJ" Lingren and husband Scott, and Brenda "Bria" March; and loving son Giovanni San Filippo. Joel and Rose were blessed with eight grandsons and one granddaughter, and were recently blessed with two great-grandchildren.
Joel was a lover of life. He enjoyed the company of friends and family and had a way of making everyone feel welcome and loved. His sweet smile and teasing humor were contagious, and he always had a hug to offer. Joel raised the bar for all fathers and husbands with his songs and stories and great love for his wife, children and country. He served five years in the U.S. Navy and fought bravely in the Korean War. Joel was a hard worker all his life, at home and on the job. His most prized honor was the Gold Man Award received for his outstanding work ethics and service while with the Tollman Hundley Hotels Group.

Florence M. (Fall) Strandberg
Florence M. (Fall) Strandberg, 88, of Carlton, Minn. passed away Saturday, Dec. 1, 2018 at Diamond Willow in Cloquet, Minn. She was born Aug. 1, 1930 to George and Mareline (McDonnell) McFall.
Florence graduated from Duluth Vocational Technical College and worked as a beautician, a waitress at Charlotte's Café, a nursing assistant, a representative at Discover Financial Services, and delivered the U.S. mail. She was a lifetime resident of Carlton, a member of the Carlton VFW Auxiliary, St. Francis Catholic Church, and she enjoyed square dancing.
Florence was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, William Fall; daughter Bonnie Fall; her brothers and sisters; step-grandson Travis Strandberg; and a son-in-law, Steve Beck. She is survived by her husband, Ernie Strandberg; children Christine Fall, Clare (Craig) Crotty, Liz Beck, William (Roseann) Fall, Pat (Gary) Kraetzner, and George (Mary) Fall; Ernie's children Skip, Alan, Dianne, Dawn, Deb and Lisa; sister Barbara (Lou) Hamilton; grandchildren Cathleen (Justin) Leonsteiner, Curtis Crotty, Nick (Lynn) Beck, Emily Beck, Julie (Daryl) Keller, Connie (Mark) Wubben, Anthony Coughlin, Gabe Fall, Alexandra Fall, Benjamin Fall and Sarah Fall; great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews and extended family.
The family would like to extend their appreciation to the past and current staff at Diamond Willow for the care given to Florence.
Visitation: 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 29, 2018 until the 11 a.m. Memorial Service at Nelson Funeral Care in Cloquet, with Deacon Jon Skansgaard officiating, and music performed by Tom Cawcutt.
