Obituaries: Robert Theodore Giblin

Robert Theodore Giblin, 81, of Cloquet, passed away unexpectedly Thursday, Aug. 22, 2019, in St. Mary’s Medical Center in Duluth.

He was born on Dec. 18, 1937, in Brookston to Theodore and Jennie (Widstrom) Giblin.

He graduated from Brookston High School in 1955. Bob worked on the railroad for six years before going to work for Conwed. He retired from USG in 1997. He married Madeline Vnuk on July 25, 1959, in Brookston.

Bob loved the outdoors, spending time at the cabin on Little Grand Lake and the cabin in Kentucky. He also loved to fish on the river. Bob enjoyed deer hunting, taking trips to Mexico and going to his daughter Gale’s home on Round Lake to mow the lawn. His greatest joy came from spending time with his grandchildren.

Bob was preceded in death by his wife, Maddy, and brother, James Giblin.

He is survived by his daughter Gale (Paul Vernon) Clark of McGregor; two sons, Randal (Peggy) of Havre, Mont. and Lance, also of Havre; former son-in-law Lindsay Clark of Cloquet; and five grandchildren, Katie McMillen, Dylan Clark, Chantell Quayle, and Matthew and Michael Thorson.

The family would like to thank the Cloquet Area Fire District paramedics and the staff at St. Mary’s neuro ICU for their compassionate care of Bob.

There was a gathering of family and friends Aug. 28 with a time of sharing at Atkins Northland Funeral Home in Cloquet.

Inurnment is in New Calvary Cemetery.
