Obituary: Janet "Jan" Arlene Mattson

Janet "Jan" Arlene Mattson, 76, of Coon Rapids was born Oct. 26, 1945, and ended her journey on the earth and went to be with her Lord on Feb. 28, 2022, after a battle with breast cancer.

The daughter of Senja and Oscar Oswald of Cloquet, she graduated from Cloquet High School in 1963. She worked at the Northwest Paper Company until making a move to Minneapolis. There she worked at the Star Tribune newspaper until getting married and starting a family. She worked at the H C Osvold Company for a number of years and then was employed at Catholic Eldercare in northeast Minneapolis until retiring in 2016.

Jan was a member of Peace Lutheran Church of Coon Rapids. She was very involved with the youth group in the 1980s. She had a very strong and deep faith, loved family, friends, the cabin, bowling and Branson, Missouri. She loved to watch family members interact at the cabin and the birds at the feeders during her quiet time.

Jan couldn't wait to vacation with the whole family in Branson on several occasions and being able to take them all to see the Bible productions at the Sight and Sound Theatres and spending a day or two at Silver Dollar City Theme Park.

She received the OK from her doctor to make a trip to Branson this past October. She saw the production of "Jesus" at the theater on Oct. 26, the day of her 76th birthday.

Jan was preceded in death by her parents and infant daughter Jodi and brother Robert.

She is survived by husband Dale; daughter Debi Mattson (Steve Casperson); son Keith (Jamie) Mattson; grandchildren Nara, Lucas Casperson, Mylie, Kalea and Finn Mattson; sisters Karen Anderson of Mahtomedi and Carol Maki of Fallon, Nevada.
