New Wine is back and better than ever, with 7 p.m. performances of "Bright Star" running nightly (beginning Wednesday) through Sunday, May 15 at Zion Lutheran Church.

Featuring a toe-tapping gospel/bluegrass score by actor/comedian/banjo player Steve Martin and singer/songwriter Edie Brickell of the New Bohemians, "Bright Star" is set in North Carolina and is inspired by a true story. Spanning decades, it tells the heartbreaking yet uplifting saga of literary editor Alice Murphy. When Alice meets a young soldier just home from World War II, he awakens her longing for the child she once lost. Haunted by their unique connection, Alice sets out on a journey to understand her past, leading to a transformative moment for both.

New Wine is a Christian youth musical/drama ministry of Zion Lutheran Church, which invites young people from many different congregations and schools to come together and perform a different musical each spring, which they take on the road after school is out. The name "New Wine" was inspired by the fifth chapter of Luke where Jesus challenges people to get rid of the old categories in which they thought about religion and relationships with God, and "pour our new wine into new wineskins." Amanda Olsen is the theatrical director and Jennifer Osborne is the musical director of the New Wine troupe.
