Military news: McCuskey retires

Chief Master Sgt. Kelvin McCuskey retired as the 148th Medical Group superintendent, 148th Fighter Wing, Minnesota Air National Guard, after 40 years of service.

McCuskey, a Wrenshall High School graduate, enlisted in 1982 as a refrigeration repairman assigned to the 148th Civil Engineering Squadron. He went on to hold numerous positions across the Wing to include heating systems technician, personnel specialist, First Sergeant, command post technician and emergency management superintendent.

After 9/11, McCuskey was mobilized to active duty to support the Wing’s homeland defense mission Operation Noble Eagle. In March of 2002 and February 2003, McCuskey deployed to Christchurch, New Zealand and McMurdo Station, Antarctica in support of Operation Deep Freeze. In May of 2008, McCuskey deployed to the 386th Expeditionary Civil Engineering Squadron, Ali Al Salem Air Base, Kuwait. In June of 2010 and October of 2014, McCuskey deployed to the 455th Air Expeditionary Wing, Bagram Airfield, Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
