Obituary: Leonard Charles DeFoe Jr.

Leonard Charles DeFoe Jr., 69, of Cloquet passed away Monday, Aug. 29, 2022. He was born Oct. 6, 1952, to Leonard Charles DeFoe Sr. and Edith Peterson in Cloquet. He was a proud member of the Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa.

Leonard served in the U.S. Army. He enjoyed going to the casino, playing his slot machines and having good conversations with friends. Leonard, a boxer himself, enjoyed boxing on TV and attending live events. He also kept up on all current affairs worldwide and in the USA, and particularly Tribal affairs. Leonard especially loved visiting and telling stories of family history.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard DeFoe Sr. and Edith Peterson; his brothers Terry A. DeFoe and Melvin J. DeFoe; and his sister Cheryl L. DeFoe.

Leonard will be deeply missed by his daughters, Amanda Lee DeFoe and Nancy Marie DeFoe; the love of his life for 28 years, Susan O'Leary; brothers Reggie DeFoe, Ricky W. DeFoe and Michael D. DeFoe; sister Cindy Lee DeFoe; like a sister, Violet Reynolds; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A public visitation and viewing was held Aug. 31 in Atkins Northland Funeral Home, and resumes at 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. memorial service Friday, Sept. 2 at Saints Mary and Joseph Catholic Church, 1225 Mission Road in Sawyer.
