Letters: Read between the party lines

If you’re a rock-solid Democrat or a hardcore Republican, this letter is not for you. This letter is intended for those people who care about our country and who are independently minded — sometimes voting red, sometimes blue, and sometimes not voting at all. This group of people is key to the upcoming election.

The rock-solid Democrats and the hardcore Republicans consistently vote their party line.

Approximately equal in number, they more or less cancel each others’ votes. The group in the middle, the independents, are vital to the upcoming election. Their power is made real by voting.

Let’s use this power wisely: Can we agree to not vote for the spreaders of the Big Lie that the 2020 presidential election was rigged, the chaos creators, the racists, and the conspiracy theorists? Can we rule out the supporters of the attempted, violent overthrow of our government on Jan. 6, those who deny that climate change is real, and those who want to restrict a woman’s reproductive rights? Let’s vote for candidates who are grounded in reality, who value democracy and science, and who support a woman’s reproductive rights.

Tim Walz, Jen Schultz, Michelle Boyechko, and Pete Radosevich, all Democrats, meet the above criteria. Let’s exert our power by voting for them on Nov. 8 in this very important election.

If you aren’t registered, you can register at your polling place on Election Day. It only takes a few minutes.
