Hearing set on sewer rate increase

The Thomson Township board of supervisors had a short agenda for its meeting Jan. 19.

The board rescheduled a public hearing to set rates for sewer service in order to allow time to work out the details for changes to commercial businesses in the township. The meeting will now be held at 4:30 p.m. Feb. 16, before the board’s regular meeting at 6:30 p.m.

According to the public hearing notice online, the proposed rate changes per month are as follows:

• One-family dwelling used for residential purposes: from $35 to $40

• Multi-family dwelling: from $35 to $40 per unit

• One family dwelling used for sheltered care, group home living: from $45 to $51

• Small Commercial: from $42.50 to $49

• Large Commercial: from $75 to $100 (dependent on size) to $86 to $150

• School, including former RAM building: from $930 to $1,200

The proposed ordinance will also move the setting of charges for service from the ordinance to the township fee schedule, which is reviewed annually. A printed copy of the entire ordinance amendment is available for inspection by any person during the clerk’s regular office hours at the town hall. An electronic version is also available at thomson.govoffice.com.

In other business, the board approved its yearly donation of $150 to the Esko all-night grad party committee. The party will be held on June 2 following the graduation ceremony.

The board closed its meeting, following brief board reports, to discuss potential real estate transactions regarding the remaining unsold lots of the business park in the township.

Chairperson Ruth Janke informed the public that the meeting would be recorded and the contents of the meeting will be discussed at future open meetings. There are only two plots remaining for sale in the business park.
