Here I am again, watching the snow come down. As I talk to people about the weather, we are all wondering if it will end soon, and spring will finally come. Later this afternoon my snowblower will have to come out to clear the driveway, hopefully for the last time. Think spring.

There’s plenty going on around Carlton these days, including:

Lions Burger Night, 5-7 p.m. Friday, March 17, Carlton VFW.

Book Sale, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Friday and Saturday, March 16 and 17 at Community Memorial Hospital, 512 Skyline Blvd., Cloquet.

Community Memorial Hospital/VSO rummage sale May 17-19 at the Four Seasons Complex, 90 Chestnut Ave., Carlton.

Bethesda Meatball Supper, 2:30-5:30 p.m. Saturday, March 18, at Bethesda Lutheran Church, 204 Fifth St., Carlton. Cost: $12 adult, $7 ages 5-10, free for under age 5. Takeout available. 218-384-4501.

The Minnesota State Archery Association state indoor tournament is March 31-April 2 at the Four Seasons Complex in Carlton. Public welcome. Concessions will be available.

Carlton VFW Post 2962: Veterans interested in joining the Carlton VFW Post 2962 and/or the Carlton VFW Auxiliary, please contact the VFW at 218-384-3794. Check out bingo on Wednesday evenings and the meat raffle every Friday.

The City of Carlton council meets at 6 p.m. the second Wednesday of the month. The public is welcome to attend. The meetings are held at the city offices in the old civic center building. Call the city at 218-384-4229 for more.

Lions Club meetings are at 6 p.m. the second and fourth Wednesdays at the VFW. Dinner is served. Contact Betsy Anderson at 218-255-5457 for more.

Four Seasons Sports Complex and Event Center board meets next at 6 p.m. March 15. The Four Seasons also collects aluminum cans, which may be put into the trailer located on the south side of the Four Seasons Complex. Check out http://www.carltonhockey.net for a schedule of events.

Volunteers wanted: A group of community members are still making plastic mats for the homeless. Volunteers crochet mats from strips cut from clean plastic shopping bags. About 700 bags are needed to make a mat about 6 feet long. The group meets from 9-11 a.m. every Tuesday at Bethesda Lutheran Church in Carlton. Bring bags to the Northwoods Credit Union in Moose Lake and Cloquet, and Bethesda Lutheran Church. Prospective volunteers are invited to contact Mary Saarela, 218-393-2693.
