Esko fun begins Tuesday

Celebrate all things Esko Aug. 1-5 during the annual Esko Fun Days celebration.

The fun starts Tuesday, with the National Night Out gathering from 5:30 to 7 p.m at the Esko fire station, where folks can look forward to a bubble show, face painting, and a free hot dog dinner and snow cones. For those who don’t want the fun to stop, there’s bingo and an ice cream social in the Esko school cafeteria 7-9 p.m.

Find out the winner of the Davis Helberg Award at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Mike’s Pizzeria. The award honors the memory of the late Davis Helberg and is given to an Esko community member who shows “stoic determination, tenacity of purpose, grit, bravery, resilience, and hardiness and has shown exceptional dedication to the community of Esko.”

The medallion hunt also kicks off Wednesday at the Esko Community Partnership Facebook page.

Lakehead Harvest will hold an open house 4-8 p.m. Thursday at 70 St. Louis River Road East. Activities move to Les Knuti Field on Friday, where there will be free movies; the family movie is “Ferdinand” at 8 p.m., and the teen movie at 10 p.m. will be “The Boogeyman.”

Saturday is the grand finale of Esko Fun Days, with the Burkholder 5K and kids’ races starting at 8 a.m., the parade at 11 a.m. (lineup at St. Matthews), and a BBQ and games at Northridge Park from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Come back to the park 7-11 p.m. for a 21-and-older street dance, featuring The Northwood’s Band. Entry fee is $5.
