At The Library: Cloquet library news

The Cloquet Public Library has been partnering with CareerForce for its pilot program, called CareerForce Corner, since 2022. Many people looking for work come to the library, and our staff has been helping them with their job search and application process. We are aware that those patrons would appreciate more thorough and comprehensive assistance.

CareerForce offers job search information, employment over age 50 workshops, career exploration, resume help, and interview practice for job seekers. Additionally, it connects them with online workshops, employers, and other employment resources. CareerForce also partners with various programs, such as Dislocated Worker, VET, State Services for the Blind, Vocational Rehabilitation Services, and adult and youth programs.

Glory Mitchell, a Workforce Development Representative with the Department of Employment and Economic Development, has been visiting the library and helping our patrons on-site every third Thursday of the month from noon to 4 p.m.

Glory says that there are many success stories that have happened through this partnership. She relayed the following example:

“The library staff asked me if I could assist a job seeker in applying for jobs. The client had been trying to apply for jobs but was unsuccessful, and he was frustrated. I met with him immediately and soon discovered his skills and talents. He had a Minnesotaworks.net account and was able to find two jobs he wanted to apply for. Together, the client and I were able to create an impactful resume and cover letter and complete the application process for both positions. He later received two interviews [so] we then practiced interviewing. The client was offered both positions, chose one, and is happily still working.”

Glory says she enjoys meeting with job seekers and discovering passions, dreams, and goals for their career paths as well as helping them create a resume that leads to a job interview, and then on to a job offer. She loves to watch the same person years later promoted and thriving.

Her next visit to the library will be Thursday, Aug. 17, from noon to 4 p.m.
