Fond du Lac Tribal and Community College student Grace Lavan won first place in the Minnesota GIS/LIS Consortium’s inaugural app competition. Her winning app is titled “A Re-evaluation of the Effects of a Pipeline on Gray Wolves.”
The app explores the question of how wolves are affected by the construction of an oil pipeline on Fond du Lac land.
Eulogio Lopez also received a scholarship from the consortium for his academic achievement in GIS. Both students are working toward geographic information system certificates.

Carter Northey, a student in Des Moines University’s physician assistant studies masters program, was a participant in the university’s White Coat Ceremony on Sept. 15. Northey is from Esko and received the white coat as a symbol of training received and the accompanying responsibilities accepted for future work in the field.

The College of St. Scholastica announced its summer dean’s list.
It includes Nicole Metcalf of Carlton, Amanda Reynolds of Sawyer, and
Kristina Anton of Esko.

Shelby Thorp of Cloquet was named to the summer honors list at Mercy College of Ohio. Thorp is studying medical imaging.
