Obituary: Daniel E. "Dan" Frigon

Daniel E. "Dan" Frigon, 91, of North Oaks, Minnesota, formerly of Duluth and Fountain Hills, Arizona, passed away peacefully at home on April 17, 2024, with his beloved wife, Mary, by his side. He was born Jan. 25, 1933, in Cloquet to Daniel and Rose (Meisner) Frigon.

Dan graduated from Cloquet High School in 1951. He served in the U.S. Army Security Agency (ASA) in Korea from 1952 to 1955. He married Mary Lou Boyer on Aug. 3, 1957, in Cloquet, and they celebrated 66 years of marriage last August.

Dan and Mary welcomed three children during the first two years of their marriage, and a fourth child eight years later. The tales of parenting three children under the age of one year are the fodder for abundant family folklore.

Dan worked for Minnesota Power for his entire career, starting as a draftsman in Cloquet, then district manager in Sandstone, and finally as director of safety, claims and security in the Duluth office.

Dan served his community in the Lions Club, the Chamber of Commerce, Parish Council, and Knights of Columbus. He was a past member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Duluth Heights, where he served at Mass until he was 83 years old.

Dan and Mary were snowbirds at Fountain Hills for 27 years. There, they enjoyed family, friends and many happy adventures. Dan loved fly fishing, music, flying airplanes, model railroads, hiking in the desert, and weekly trapshooting with his buddies. He always hosted the guys afterwards for hot coffee, delicious baked goods and lively conversation. He was a fabulous storyteller with a quick wit and wonderful sense of humor. Dan was highly respected and well-liked in all his endeavors.

Dan was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Gerald (Donna). He will be greatly missed by his wife, Mary; and children Laura (Mike Konop) Mayer of Centerville, Tim (Barb) of Chandler, Arizona, Tom (Deoloris) of Goodyear, Arizona, and Mike (Briana Davis) of White Bear Township; grandchildren, Ryan (Audrey) Mayer, Jennifer (Craig Love) Frigon, Amanda (Matthew) Manning, Katherine (Brendan Rohde) Mayer, Daniel (Michelle) Frigon, and Michael Frigon; great-grandchildren, Molly Mayer, Emily Manning, Elizabeth Manning and Arlo Rohde; and numerous relatives and friends.

Visitation: Saturday, April 27, from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. Catholic Mass at the St. Genevieve Parish Community Center, 6995 Centerville Road, Centerville. A noon luncheon will follow at the parish. Internment with full military honors will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 28 at New Calvary Cemetery in Cloquet.
